Impact Communications partnered with Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio to develop the Clinical Trial Challenge, an interactive educational kiosk.

The creative challenge was to take the topic of randomized clinical trials and create an interactive gaming experience to educate and engage science center visitors. The Impact creative team rose to the challenge developing five interactive games and three documentary-style short videos which are all played in succession on a 32” touchscreen kiosk. Impact was responsible for all scriptwriting, interface design, game development, kiosk navigation, video editing, audio production and kiosk programming.

“Fates and Funding” is a game that takes on the look of a game show with three people behind podiums. The three podiums represent the three sources that typically produce the greatest amount of funding for a clinical trial. Some players earn enough funding, while others don’t, thus learning that some trials cannot continue without adequate funding.

In another game, “The Right Stuff” a hospital waiting room filled with people is where visitors examine clinical trial criteria to select the three correct volunteers to participate in the clinical trial.

The videos produced by Impact feature a local clinical trial patient and the medical team that works on her trial. The videos show that trials are happening right in your own city and that there are many roles to take in a trial including patient volunteer, study coordinator, doctor and more.
